COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — A man was arrested in Lake City Wednesday after deputies discovered counterfeit money in a order of chicken wings and a gun in his possession, police said.

A Columbia County Sheriff's Office deputy encountered two people in a vehicle in a Lake City Zaxby’s parking lot.

The deputy learned that one of the occupants, Bryan Chapman, 26, had an outstanding warrant form DeSoto County for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Chapman, who has a Memphis address, was detained and a search of the vehicle revealed counterfeit U.S. currency and a firearm, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies also found equipment used to produce counterfeit currency, the sheriff's office said.

“I commend Deputy Montemurno for demonstrating such initiative with this investigation,” Columbia County Sheriff Mark Hunter said. “His willingness to be proactive led to the capture of a felon and helps prevent more people from being victimized.”

Chapman was booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility without bond. He faces charges for the warrant as well as additional charges for the counterfeit currency and firearm found in his possession, according to the agency.
