JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is still working to identify human remains that were located in the city's Southside area more than ten years ago.

The renewed effort to identify the remains are part of JSO's monthly Cold Case Spotlight campaign, which seeks to feature a homicide that has been deemed a cold case.

On Friday, March 8, 2013, members of a work crew who were clearing land near 10300 block of Brightman Boulevard at the dead end of St. Johns Bluff Road South found a human skull.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene, securing the site for forensic excavation.

Crews were able to locate a majority of the skeletal remains in the area where the skull was located.

Investigators say the remains appeared to be in the area for an extended amount of time.

The remains were determined to be male, however, the victim's race, age, and identity have yet to be determined.

The Medical Examiner's Office ruled the victim's death a homicide after an autopsy found the he sustained trauma to the head which led to his death.

Anyone with information on the victim's identity or information related to the case are asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at (904) 630-0500 or email JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org, or to remain anonymous, call First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
