Update: Carjacking suspect found hiding in 8-foot deep water, taken into custody by Clay County deputies

The Clay County Sheriff's Office said the JSO Air Units and K-9 Units assisted in tracking down the suspect, who was hiding in 8-foot deep water.

MIDDLEBURG, Fla. — The Clay County Sheriff's Office has a carjacking suspect in custody after advising residents to stay in their homes as law enforcement searched for the armed suspect who fled from a stolen vehicle near Blanding Boulevard.

Deputies said dispatchers were able to recognize the stolen vehicle through a license plate recognition system. 

At approximately 11 a.m. Saturday, there was a large police presence near the 3200 Block of Talisman Drive and the incident occurred near 1800 Saga Court, the Sheriff's Office said. 

The Sheriff's Office said the man was possibly armed with a handgun.

Members of the Florida Highway Patrol, and Jacksonville Sheriff's Office assisted the Clay County Sheriff's Office with the search for the suspect, who fled on foot. 

The man was caputured by law enforcement near Joe Johns Road, with the help of drones, JSO's Air Unit, and K-9 Units searching by air and on the ground. 

The suspect was found hiding in 8-foot deep water and was taken into custody, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
