Clay County man, 47, accused of impregnating minor, sheriff's office says

Kelvin McCray was charged with sexual assault with a minor aged 12-17 with no physical force and child abuse.

ORANGE PARK, Fla. — A Clay County man has been accused of impregnating a minor, according to a warrant served by the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

Kelvin McCray, 47, was charged with sexual assault with a minor aged 12-17 with no physical force and child abuse.

McCray was arrested on 1910 Wells Road following a traffic stop, the warrant said. According to the arrest report, the investigation into the assault started in October 2023. The report is heavily redacted and does not state how the victim and McCray knew each other.

The report states the victim, who is 13 years old, gave birth in early February.

According to the report, investigators obtained DNA samples of both the baby and McCray. The results confirmed McCray is the father.

McCray was working at Deep Creek Youth Academy at the time of the alleged assault. The school confirmed he resigned in February.

McCray's next court date is June 17.

Jackie Krug, the Director of Development at the Quigley House in Clay County, said the organization is seeing an increase in sexual assault cases. She said it is important for parents to keep an open dialogue with their children since they may feel embarrassed or ashamed about their abuse, and may be scared to open up.

"Embarrassed and not wanting to hurt that person that has been hurting them. And honestly, they're their innocence. They may or may not know that it's wrong, depending on how long it has been going on for them. So, we just have to listen out and pay attention to our children," Krug explained.

The Quigley House offers 24/7 support for victims of abuse and domestic violence. Call their crisis hotline at 904-284-0061 or visit their website.
