Clay County inmate taken to hospital, dies 2 weeks later

Michael Foyt, 60, told police that he had a medical procedure days before his arrest and was experiencing chest pains. He was taken to the hospital, later dying.

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A Clay County inmate Jail died Sunday, two weeks after he was transferred to a local hospital.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office says that on July 15, Michael Foyt, 60, was booked into the jail for violated the conditions of his bond for a domestic battery charge.

During his intake, Foyt told staff that he had undergone a medical procedure three days prior and was experiencing chest pains.

He was assessed by medical staff and taken the hospital by ambulance, CCSO said. He was under medical care for two weeks and died at the hospital after a medical emergency Sunday.

The Sheriff's Office says that Foyt was not involved in any use-of-force incidents.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Medical Examiner's Office are conducting a review of this case.
