JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department has taken a child to the hospital from the scene of a shooting in the Whitehouse neighborhood in Jacksonville.
The child's age has not been released at this time.
There is a police presence at a home in the 11700 block of Beaver Street as of Tuesday afternoon.
An officer on the scene says the child, a girl, was shot in the lower back. Her injuries were originally labeled life-threatening but she is now expected to survive.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office will provide a comprehensive update on the incident in the near future.
