JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A former student issuing a bomb threat at Raines High School prompted a lockdown Wednesday, according to the Duval County Public Schools.

In a message sent to parents, Principal Vincent Hall said a former student attempted to visit a staff member and was denied due to "unusual behavior." The suspect then contacted law enforcement to report a bomb threat to the school.

Raines was immediately placed on a "lockout" as a precaution while the threat was investigated. During a lockout, no one is allowed to enter or leave campus.

Police conducted a security sweep of the school and determined the threat was not credible, Hall said.

"While I am saddened by this outcome for this former student, I want to make it clear that a threat of violence against our school will always be taken seriously and will involve severe consequences," Hall said.

Following an interview with school police detectives, the individual was arrested and charged with making a false report of a bomb threat, Hall said.

Hall said all students and staff were reported safe.
