Police: One in custody after standoff at Best Western Oceanfront in Jacksonville Beach

Jacksonville Beach Police say 36-year-old, Tyrone Banks, has been arrested on charges of aggravated assault.

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — Jacksonville Beach Police say a man has been arrested after a standoff at The Best Western Oceanfront in Jacksonville Beach that spanned hours.

No one was injured, police said.

Police say 36-year-old Tyrone Banks was arrested on charges of aggravated assault.

Jacksonville Beach Police say they were called to the Downtown Jacksonville Beach area around 4:30 p.m. for a reported aggravated assault with a gun.

Police say Banks went inside the hotel and barricaded himself inside a room. Police were able to get Banks' girlfriend out of the room but were unable to get Banks out of the room for over two hours.

A flash bang was used to distract Banks in order to gain entry to the room, police said.

First Coast News spoke to John Spivey, a hotel guest who was staying on the same floor as the incident.

He described the scene from inside his hallway as negotiations were taking place.

"I went up to my room and I got ready to leave, and I walk out and there's a SWAT team outside my door, and he says stay in there. I went back in I thought about it, you guys have shields I got nothing if they start shooting it's going to come through these walls I'm leaving, so I come back out, and I say can I get out of here, and they said yup. Sent me on the elevator sent me down." Spivey said.

Police did not say whether a gun was found at the scene.

Banks is being held at the Duval County Jail.
