JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Rashaurd Lewis, arrested in 2020 at the age of 19, faces the death penalty for his part in the murder of a Jacksonville father.
He was found guilty of first-degree murder by a Duval County jury Monday. The penalty phase in his trial, where the jury will recommend his sentence, is ongoing as of Thursday.
According to the State Attorney's Office, on Dec. 14, 2019, Lewis and two other men followed the victim for over an hour through the city's Northside. He parked his car in a subdivision and took his son into a home.
When the victim came back out from the house and got back into the car, Lewis and another man ran up to the car and fired into the vehicle with both a rifle and a handgun.
The victim had a hit out on him for $75,000, according to the SAO.
Lewis was paid for the murder afterward.
The SAO alleges his codefendant's were paid also.
