Arrest made in McDuff convenience store shooting

Police are searching the gunman who shot and killed a man outside a convenience store
Christopher Nathaniel Brown

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police have made an arrest in connection to a deadly shooting outside a convenience store Sunday night.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 39-year-old Christopher Brown Monday for the murder of Sherad Dues.

Authorities say Dues was arguing with a female friend who ended up slapping him. The woman then left and went to the home of Brown, who she considers her step-dad.

Next, the two went to the McDuff Food Mart to buy beer. The female witness told officers they saw Dues walking out of the store.

That's when JSO says Brown allegedly grabbed a gun and began to argue with Dues before shooting him in the upper chest.

Dues was pronounced dead at the hospital. Eyewitnesses and video helped lead to Brown's arrest early Monday morning.

Authorities say there appeared to be an altercation between Dues and Brown prior to the shooting. After the shooting, the Brown drove off.

Dues was pronounced dead at UF Health Jacksonville, JSO says.
