LEON COUNTY, Fla.—An active arrest warrant was issued early last week for Ruben Ebron, the man sentenced in the death of 21-month-old Lonzie Barton. The new warrants is related to a sexual assault case from 2006, the State Attorney’s Office confirmed to First Coast News Thursday.
Ebron, 33, is accused of sexual assault on a person over the age of 12 in Leon County ten years ago, the warrant out of the 2nd Judicial Circuit alleges.
The warrant, signed July 11, orders a $25,000 bond and that he has no contact with the victim. The bond is moot, as he is currently in a state prison.
He is serving a 20-year sentence for aggravated manslaughter and child neglect charges after toddler Lonzie died while in his care almost a year ago – and he stashed the body under a pile of tires in the Bayard area of Jacksonville.
He and the child’s biological mother, Lonna Barton, were both tried and sentenced in the toddler’s death. Barton received 5 years for her role in Lonzie’s death, but was also sentenced for drug charges in Baker County around the same time.
