22-year-old arrested, accused of murder after shooting in busy Five Points area during Halloween weekend

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said 22-year-old Jaelin Leroy faces charges of 2nd-degree murder in the shooting. He is being held on no bond.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 22-year-old is in police custody after a shooting in the Five Points area left a man dead Saturday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Jaelin Leroy, 22, faces charges of 2nd-degree murder in the shooting. 

Patrol officers working in the Five Points area heard a single gunshot in the 1000 block of Park Street at approximately 11 p.m. Saturday. Officers found a man with a gunshot wound lying in the roadway. 

At the same time, officers saw a man, later identified as Leroy, standing near the victim in possession of a firearm. Leroy was detained by officers without incident. 

Officers began life-saving efforts on the victim while first responders arrived. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department took the victim to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. 

After reviewing all available evidence, detectives arrested Leroy for 2nd-degree murder. 

Leroy is being held in Duval County Jail on no bond.
