FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — A 14-year-old student from Indian Trails Middle School was arrested Friday morning after threatening students and staff with a knife, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.
The teen faces charges of aggravated assault and exhibition of a weapon on school grounds.
At approximately 7:45 a.m. deputies responded to Indian Trails Middle School to assist the school resource deputy, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Before the start of class, two female students got into a physical altercation which was broken up by school staff. After the altercation, deputies say the 14-year-old removed a knife from his backpack and held it in a threatening way toward students.
No injuries were reported and the teen was safely taken into custody.
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly reminded students and parents about the county's zero-tolerance policy when it comes to bringing any weapon to school.
"You will be arrested," Staly said. "I remind parents, again, to be the Sheriff in your home and to teach your children that violence is never the right answer."
Flagler Schools Superintendent LaShakia Moore also reminded students and parents that bringing weapons to school "will not be tolerated."
"We will not let the actions of a few undermine the overall goal of educating our students.," said Moore.
