Police: Jacksonville teen shot in face, then crashed into nearby Riverview residence

The victim, who was driving a vehicle, attempted to flee from multiple people firing shots and crashed into a residence nearby.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A shooting in Jacksonville's Riverview area Monday afternoon left a teen hurt and a residence damaged when the victim fled the scene and crashed into a nearby residence, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said. 

At approximately 3:30 p.m., officers responded to the 2300 block of 5th Avenue in reference to a person shot.

Upon arrival, officers located a victim in his late teens suffering from a gunshot to the face.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department took the victim to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation shows the victim was driving a vehicle with two other people, a man and a woman, and was heading to meet an unknown person.

Multiple armed individuals were at the location with guns when the group arrived, and started firing into the vehicle.

Police said the victim, who was driving the vehicle, attempted to flee the scene and crashed into a nearby residence, leaving damage.

Residents in the area found the victims and called police. The other two individuals in the vehicle were not injured. 

JSO's Violent Crime detectives were on the scene canvassing for possible witnesses and surveillance video. 

At this time, no suspects are in police custody. The investigation remains ongoing.
