Apartments, townhomes, and a Bass Pro Shop.
All of that could be on the way in St. Johns County just off 9B and Interstate 95.
Gatlin Development has submitted plans for phase two of their development project with St. Johns County currently underway at the Pavilion at Durbin Park.
If you’ve been to the Walmart and Home Depot in the area, it’s likely you’ve seen construction vehicles.
Kim Keith moved to St. Augustine a year ago and says the Walmart and shops opening at the Pavilion at Durbin Park save her time.
“Before driving back and forth I would always stop on the way home," Keith said. "Just coming here and being able to leave quickly is nice."
Keith welcomes the idea of expanding even more.
Phase two would bring in a Bass Pro Shop along with other commercial and retail spaces.
Flager Health Plus has purchased 40 acres to add a 150-bed hospital.
“Town-center won’t be as crowded because more people will come down here and the tax dollars will go back into St. Johns County, so that will be nice.”
“It’s great for me I go to the Home Depot all the time it’s like my second address, so I’m happy,” said Darren Rosenbaum.
Darren Rosenbaum lives about seven miles away and adds at the rate that the county is expanding he’s ok with expanding even further.
Phase two would also look to bring in another 2,000 multi-family townhouses and apartments.
“You can’t really stop it, you know the way the county is developing and more and more people are coming so it’s not a bad thing, I don’t think. Now we have everything right here or we will in the next year or two so that’s what we like about it.”
The expansion still has to be approved by the St. Johns County commissioners, but developers say the plans don’t vary from the overall development plan approved in 2015.
If completed, the complex would create the largest shopping center in northeast Florida by square footage. Phase two hopes to break ground in the next 12 months.
