Savannah Bananas help build a playset for 7-year-old fighting cancer

The baseball team partnered with the Roc Solid Foundation, a foundation dedicated to building hope for those fighting cancer.

NORFOLK, Va. — Taking a break from entertaining crowds this weekend at Harbor Park, the Savannah Bananas helped build a playset for a child fighting cancer.

On Saturday, they partnered with the non-profit Roc Solid Foundation to help build a playset for 7-year-old Luke Wright, who is currently fighting a cancerous tumor.

The Chesapeake-based foundation is dedicated to building hope for kids fighting various forms of cancer.

“Luke is fighting a form of cancer, Leiomyosarcoma, and so he’s doing very well. He’s receiving chemotherapy. The reason that we’re building the playset is cause Luke is a cancer fighter, cancer survivor, and so the first thing taken from a child when they’re diagnosed with cancer,” said Roc Solid Foundation founder Eric Newman, who himself is a child cancer survivor.

The family arrived at Harbor Park in a limousine for the playset reveal.

“He’s kicking cancers butt, and he’s going to have a good day!” said Newman.
