JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The public is invited to speak to Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters Thursday night to ask him questions at the library downtown as he and officers will host the sheriff's office first town hall meeting of six for district one.
District one consists of neighborhoods Riverside and San Marco, and includes downtown.
This year, JSO is traveling to each district in Duval County to focus on specific needs for each area.
“It gets specific, so you get to ask specific questions that are specific to that district," JSO District One Commander Sergeant Jimmy Ricks told First Coast News. "In a big townhall meeting, there was so many people. This should condense it down a little bit and gage with the sheriff."
Anyone who attends the town hall meetings for the district they live in can come to the forum and share their concerns they see where they live. It’s an open mic, giving everyone the chance to speak up to law enforcement directly about public safety issues.
“I’m not going to sit in my office while things are going on in the community and hide," Waters explained. "I’ll be out in the public eye and I promised the people of this community when I ran for sheriff that I would stand in front, I would talk and discuss things and be open and transparent, and that’s what we’re doing."
Each town hall will happen on Thursday evenings for the rest of JSO's districts.
District one's town hall meeting will take place at the downtown library located at 303 North Laura St. from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

District 3 Town Hall Meeting on Aug. 15 at 6 p.m., at the Sheraton Jacksonville Hotel (10605 Deerwood Park Blvd.)
District 4 Town Hall Meeting on Aug. 22 at 6 p.m., at First Coast Christian School (7587 Blanding Blvd.)
District 5 Town Hall Meeting on Aug. 29 at 6 p.m., at the Paxon Revival Center (5461 Commonwealth Ave.)
District 6 Town Hall Meeting on Sept. 5 at 6 p.m., at the North Jax Baptist Church (8531 N. Main St.)
