Jacksonville Humane Society steps in to help rescue sexually abused dog from being euthanized

After the story aired on First Coast News Wednesday, the humane society contacted Pit Sisters and offered to take Princess to its rehabilitation center.

Days after First Coast News first reported about a pit bull rescue worker who was trying to save a sexually abused dog from being euthanized, Pit Sisters announced on Friday that the Jacksonville Humane Society is stepping in to help.

Pit Sisters Executive Director Jen Deane posted on Facebook saying the humane society offered to relocate the pit bull, Princess, to the National Canine Rehabilitation Center.

"We truly hope she will make a successful transition into the dog we all wish for her to be," Deane wrote.

Deane wrote that Princess went through "horrible trauma." She was reportedly sexually abused, and as a result, "she demonstrated significant aggression to anyone, men and women [and children]," Deane wrote.

"As a certified dog trainer, I worked with [and] fostered her to try to reduce the aggression," she wrote. "My plan was to make her a sanctuary dog ... [but] I made the extremely difficult decision to euthanize her."

After the story aired on First Coast News Wednesday, Deane said the humane society contacted her and offered to take Princess to its rehabilitation center.

In her hopes to make Princess a sanctuary dog, Deane said she raised funds to buy her a house. She said she offered it to the humane society, but they declined it. She said they plan to use the house for another dog, but if anyone is requesting a refund, to contact them.
