JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A local family is receiving more than just prayers after their daughter was born more than three months early.
People from all across the country have donated prayer squares for baby Lyriq. She only weighs just over one pound and she is fighting for her life.
"I went in for a basic check-up. Just having a little pain," said Finch.Lyriq was born at Wolfson Children's hospital on Jan. 8. Her mother, Channing Finch, says she was only 28 weeks into her pregnancy.
However, that pain was Lyriq pushing her way into the world three months early. Doctors say the baby was not growing inside her mother's stomach.
"It was scary having her so tiny and in this world when she's not suppose to be," said Finch.
Lyriq is so tiny that her mother's anniversary ring can fit over the baby's wrist- like a bracelet.
"We thought it was just adorable on her," said Finch.
Finch sings to her daughter every day in the neonatal intensive care unit and she has a deep love for music. Finch says she has only held her daughter once and she visits her twice a day.
"I''m scared that I'll come in and it's not as good as it usually is," said Finch. "She's not supposed to come home until March, when she was originally due."
Finch says its the prayers and mini crocheted prayer squares from people around the world that are helping her stay strong. So far, she's received more than 100 squares.
"People are thinking about my daughter from across the world? That's incredible," said Finch.
Finch has received pray squares from Venezuela, England, Nicaragua and Jacksonville. Finch plans to sew them together into one large prayer quilt.
"She's going to look at this when she's older and think how many were rooting for her," said Finch.
