Embattled corrections officer Cierra Smith resigned from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
She was stripped of her duties nearly a year ago when the internal affairs division launched an investigation into several complaints of misconduct, including that she had sexual relations where her then boss Darryl Daniels who is now sheriff in Clay County.
The sex claim was not substantiated though many others regarding her conduct were. Sheriff Mike Williams called for her resignation.
Smith in May opted against an arbitration hearing where the board would not be bound to follow the recommendation. She then requested a binding opinion of the Civil Service Board. A hearing was set for Thursday.
Smith, who is pregnant and said she has been in a relationship with Daniels for six years, has been on unpaid suspension since June 1. Monday the civil service board was notified that Smith resigned.
Daniels is under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement after he called for Smith’s arrest after his wife found out about the affair and he said she was stalking him. His own staff advised the State Attorney’s Office they didn’t feel there was just cause.
