Brand new Boeing repair facility now open in Jacksonville

New to Jacksonville, not one but two Boeing repair facilities will be used for military aircrafts.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — After three years of construction, the Boeing repair hanger opened with a celebratory ribbon-cutting on Friday near Cecil Airport.

The hangar does more than support military aircrafts and their missions across the country.

Mayor Donna Deegan added this will add more than 300 highly skilled jobs to Jacksonville. She and other political leaders attended the ribbon cutting and say there's potential to create employment opportunities for service men and women after they served the country.

The facility will maintain military readiness not just for the state, but the nation, working on military aircrafts that travel all over the world on defense missions.

Boeing plans to use these state-of-the-art facilities to develop a partnership with the three other bases within Duval County.

"Because we partnered with the Department of Defense, everything around here is secret. So, that made it difficult to get things done, but it looks amazing. And like I said earlier, this is the biggest project we've ever done," said Jacksonville Aviation Authority CEO Mark VanLoh.

The second repair facility will open right next door when construction is complete in April.
