Alachua fire rescue name being used in check scam

The Alachua County Fire Rescue Department would like the public to know they are not just sending out checks to people for, in one instance, over $1,000.

Their name is being used in a check cashing scam - and if you get a check from the department, please call their finance and accounting department at 352-374-3605.

While the checks are delivered by the U.S. Postal Service and look legitimate - they're not. It'll have a valid tracking number and be sent using USPS's 'Priority 2-day mail.'

However, fire rescue officials would like you to know the return address for the check is incorrect on the envelope and the business address on the check doesn't match.

Bank of America was notified of this scam and will not honor checks that meet the above information.
