The identity of the human remains found in Northwest Jacksonville Thursday night is still unknown.
But in any instance, a family may be wondering if those remains could belong to their loved one who is missing.
A Jacksonville woman joined a support group for missing persons after her son went missing on the Westside on June 26, 2007.
Christy Davis is part of the Community United Effort (CUE) Center for Missing Persons.
She said she's not ruling out that the remains could be of her son, but she understands that those remains could belong to anyone.
Davis says the family of a missing person can face a struggle, especially when waiting to learn the identity of human remains.
"Every time you hear about human remains being found, you want to hope it's yours," Davis said. "You also tend to think, 'Is it bad that I'm hoping the human remains are my family member or loved one?'"
On June 26, 2007, Christy Davis' son, Michael Austin Davis, was last seen at the Jax Jewelry and Pawn in the 5200 block of Blanding Boulevard near 103rd Street around 12:30 pm.
While she continues to live life, she carries her son's memories with her.
"I have a daughter, grandchildren who I adore and love and I'm very involved with," she said. "But at some point, there's that missing part of me."
That part of her is why she came to the area of Utsey Drive as police work to figure out the identity of the human remains found there.
Police say foul play is suspected because of the positioning of the body.
Davis hopes that the public comes forward with information about the remains.
She says the information could bring some closure to a family who needs it.
"Sometimes it takes one person to step up and say, 'I know something about that,' and that could be the difference between finding a loved one and not,” Davis said.
