ATLANTA -- Actor Wendell Pierce was arrested early Saturday morning at an Atlanta hotel, police confirmed with 11Alive.
Pierce, who is a native of New Orleans, is best known for his roles as Det. William 'Bunk' Moreland in HBO's 'The Wire' and Antoine Batiste in 'Treme.'
Officials with the Atlanta Police Department have released little details regarding the incident, but say the arrest happened at an Atlanta Lowes Hotel where Pierce was a guest.
Authorities did not provide an incident report, but released a statement that said in part, "The incident did not rise to anything significant, so no special notification was made...it was treated like any other arrest a patrol officer conducts. Mr. Pierce made no indication he was famous nor did the officer inquire."
Fulton County Jail records show Pierce was booked on a simple battery charge and has since posted a $1000 bond.
No other information was available.
