WAYCROSS, Ga. — The 911 calls made during a deadly Waycross hotel shooting reportedly involving Yungeen Ace were released Wednesday.
On Sunday morning, a caller told dispatch he heard gunshots outside his window at the Hampton Inn at 1720 Brunswick Highway.
"Sounds like there's been gunshots or something here," he said. "Not in our room. It's outside our window."
The caller also said his wife may have caught a glimpse of the incident.
"My wife saw some guys running or something," he said.
The Waycross Police Department said they responded to reports of people being chased in the hotel's parking lot by people with guns at around 3:30 a.m.
Attorney David Hass said rapper Yungeen Ace, real name Keyanta Bullard, and his group were ambushed as they returned to the hotel.
A victim, 30-year-old Jeremy Alexander Brookins from Jacksonville, was found near the hotel's pool area, police said. Brookins had gunshot wounds to his body and was pronounced dead shortly after.
Another victim, Dewayne Lamont Scott, 29, was found in a room inside the hotel with gunshot wounds and was rushed to a hospital, police said.
Police said, three men from Jacksonville were arrested during the investigation into the shooting:
- Mark Isaac Jefferson, 26, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and marijuana possession.
- Leroy Girard Whittaker, 18, was arrested and charged with a marijuana misdemeanor, reckless conduct and possession of a handgun without a license.
- Devante Demorris Starks, 26, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm and marijuana possession.
Yungeen Ace's attorney said the rapper and his group are being cooperative with Waycross police as they investigate the case.
Police have not said whether the victims or the men arrested were part of the rapper's group or committed the reported ambush.
Yungeen Ace was involved in another deadly ambush back in June 2018 near the Town Center Mall on the Southside.
In that shooting, Yungeen Ace was the lone survivor and his brother Tre'von Bullard, 18, and friends Royale D'Von Smith Jr., 18, and Jercoby Da'Shad Groover, 19, were all killed. Police said a car pulled up and began firing at the vehicle the four teens were sitting in at a Town Center gas station.
