Here are the projects that doubling Jacksonville's local gas tax would cover

Curry and JTA officials have been meeting with council members about extending the current 6-cent gas tax and adding an additional 6-cent tax for 30 years.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — (Note: The video above is from a previous related report.)

The potential doubling of Jacksonville's 6-cent local gas tax would pay for dozens of transportation projects in a draft list created by Mayor Lenny Curry's administration and the Jacksonville Transportation Authority.

Curry and JTA officials have been meeting with council members about extending the current 6-cent gas, which will expire in 2036, for an additional 10 years while also adding another 6 cents to the gas tax for a 30-year period.

The decision on whether to extend and raise the gas tax rests with City Council. If approved, the local gas tax in Duval County would be 12 cents per gallon.

The list has $354 million in road corridor projects, $129 million for drainage improvements that benefit roadways, and $447 million for transit projects. Here is the list by those categories.
