JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation is investigating a incident involving a semi-truck and the overpass on Hendrick's Avenue.
The state road department said it happened Thursday night around 1 a.m.. Roads were closed for nearly four hours. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but FDOT is tasked with "permanent repairs".
Hampton Ray, FDOT's spokesperson, said the goal is to fix the bridge as quickly and safely as possible. He mentioned the truck struck the beams of the overpass for the I-95 southbound collector ramp.
"And then what the contractor is going to do is basically remove some of the existing beam and then replace that beam," Ray explained.
Good news, the taxpayer will not pay for repair. Ray said the state will go after the truck's insurance company. As of Thursday, FDOT said it is too early to estimate the cost of repairs or how long it will take to replace the beams.
"If you're a semi-truck driver or if you're maybe renting a large vehicle, always make sure you know - 13 feet, six inches is pretty standard," Ray said.
FDOT said it safe to drive over and under the bridge. Expect crews to close two lanes South bound I-95 at the collector ramp.
