JTA to hire dozens for new route connecting downtown to the beaches

New hires will receive $12.50 an hour during the first seven weeks of paid training. After completing training, pay will be bumped up to $14 an hour. Employees also get benefits and vacation pay.

Here's some good news if you're planning on going to the 2016 TaxSlayer Bowl and don't want to deal with all the game traffic: the Jacksonville Transportation Authority is offering cheap shuttle service to the game.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JTA announced Monday that it's looking to hire 30 additional bus operators by November of this year for its newest First Coast Flyer Bus Rapid Transit route.

The route will be 18.5 miles from downtown to the beaches. It's expected to connect more people to jobs, education, healthcare and entertainment opportunities, according to a press release.

JTA announced it's also offering paid training, competitive pay and benefits for candidates interested in the position.

In order to apply, you must be:

  • 21 or older
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Florida CDL license class A or B with airbrake and Passenger or Permit endorsement
  • Clean driving record with no more than three traffic violations in the last five years

Training classes will be held on August 20, September 24, October 22 and November 26. New hires will receive $12.50 an hour during the first seven weeks of paid training. After completing training, pay will be bumped up to $14 an hour.

JTA also offers benefits and vacation pay.
