JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Starting Saturday, Florida buyers can purchase qualifying disaster preparedness supplies without paying sales tax.

The Florida Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday was passed by the Florida Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis earlier this year.

It marks the second exemption period this year, allowing buyers to get anything they need to be safe during the 2023 hurricane season.

The tax-free holiday will run from August 26 to September 8.

Some items buyers can get tax-free include:

  • flashlights
  • pet supplies
  • laundry detergent
  • hand sanitizer / disinfecting wipes
  • hand soap
  • trash bags

Some items must be less than a certain price in order to be tax-free.

For a detailed list of items that qualify for the tax-free holiday, visit the Florida Department of Revenue.
