JACKSONVILLE, Fla — Amazon is expanding its footprint in the River City, with the addition of a sixth fulfillment center in Jacksonville, creating more than 500 new full-time jobs.
The site is expected to launch in the fall of 2021, a more than one-million-square-foot facility where associates will pick, pack and ship small items, including apparel, accessories and footwear. It will be located at Imeson Park in North Jacksonville on Cold Storage Avenue.
In addition to its industry-leading minimum wage of $15 an hour for full-time associates, Amazon will be recruiting roles in human resources, operations management, safety, security, finance and information technology.
Among the benefits Amazon offers to its employees are 20 weeks of paid maternal and paternal leave, Leave Share and Ramp Back, which give new parents flexibility with their growing families.
The company also offers up to 20 weeks of paid maternal and paternal leave along with innovative benefits such as Leave Share and Ramp Back, which give new parents flexibility with their growing families.
“With this announcement for its sixth facility in the region, Amazon continues to be a major driver of jobs and investment,” said Aundra Wallace, president of JAXUSA Partnership in a news release. “Jacksonville’s prime location and infrastructure have made us a natural choice for distribution and ecommerce business and Amazon’s sustained success here demonstrates our regional strength.”
The economic impact of the new fulfillment center will go beyond the center itself, with the generation of construction, logistics and professional services positions before the facility is built. In addition, more than 140,000 independent authors and small and medium businesses in Florida are selling to customers in Amazon’s store, creating thousands of additional jobs across the state, the company said in a news release.
