72 food service workers to lose jobs in Orange Park

A WARN Act notice indicates dozens of Sodexo food service workers at Orange Park Medical Center will no longer have a job next month.

ORANGE PARK, Fla. — Dozens of food service workers will be laid off from their jobs working for a vendor at Orange Park Medical Center next month.

Sodexo received notice from OPMC that effective Jan. 31, 2022, it will no longer use the food service vendor, according to a memo obtained by First Coast News Thursday. That means the employment of 72 individuals at the medical center will be permanently discontinued, the memo says.

The memo was sent to the Department of Economic Opportunity's state trade and rapid response coordinator under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN, Act. Roles being terminated include cashiers, clinical nutrition, cooks, dietetic clerks, a chef, food service workers, health care host or hostesses, an HR manager, registered dietitians, supervisors and utility workers.

The memo lists an "expected date of separation" of Jan. 31, 2022.

Statement from Orange Park Medical Center:

"As we transition from a vendor-supported food service program to an internally operated service, Orange Park Medical Center is pleased to offer employment to the current Sodexo employed food and nutrition services team members. Our leadership team is diligently working to support the staff and facilitate a smooth transition. Many of these individuals have been an invaluable part of our team for years. We look forward to officially welcoming them to the Orange Park Medical Center family in February and integrating them even further into our team, culture and mission."
