JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Here on First Coast News, we're highlighting some 'Wellness Wednesday' opportunities offered at First Coast YMCA for our community members aged 50 and older.
We now know 'The Y' is much more than just a gym; it’s a vibrant hub for healthy aging.
With a focus on both physical fitness and social engagement, First Coast YMCA offers a range of programs designed to help you age gracefully and actively. Good Morning Jacksonville Anchor Jasmine Monroe got a chance to speak with Connie Smith, YMCA senior director of healthy living, about the importance of staying active.
Smith tells us there's three things to remember:
1. Get out and stay active
2. Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone
3. Help yourself first and others will follow
Smith also added the effects of social isolation on the body are as bad as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
Each Wednesday, we'll have you covered to focusing on a happier and healthier life.
