On Your Side: Palatka woman wrongfully declared dead now able to access benefits after Social Security fixes big mistake

Sandra Michael wasn't able to get access to her much-needed medication after she was wrongfully declared dead by Social Security and her health insurance.

A few days ago, On Your Side reported on a story about Sandra Michael, the Putnam County woman who was mistakenly declared dead by Social Security and her health insurance.

Michael is very much alive and was having a difficult time proving that to the two agencies. As result she had lost her health insurance coverage and social security was still working on restoring her benefits after Michael had submitted an affidavit to prove she is still alive.

We don’t know what caused the system to declare her as dead, but after reaching out to both agencies the problem has been corrected.

Michael can now receive the much-needed medication for her chronic health condition.

Her family is pleased with the outcome and her daughter told On Your Side, "My mom is back on the road to good health, thank you for hearing us and helping us."
