Red Robin, Aldi, to headline new Town Center area development

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Aldi will be adding its second store in Jacksonville, and Red Robin Gourmet Burgers will be making its Northeast Florida debut. They’re among the tenants going into the new Town Center Promenade that’s being developed on Town Center Parkway, across the street from St. Johns Town Center.

Aldi, one of the world’s largest grocers, opened on Southside Boulevard last year after opening its first two Northeast Florida stores in St. Augustine and Middleburg. It will be about one-third the size of a full Publix or Winn-Dixie, but often comes out best in price comparisons.

The closest Red Robin is now in Gaineville. But last year when the Times-Union asked readers what chains they wanted to see come to Jacksonville, the burger-and-brew restaurant got more votes than anything not named Macy’s.

Two other restaurants coming to the development will be new to the area:

■ Texas de Brazil is a 7,00-square-foot churrascaria or Brazilian all-you-can-eat steakhouse. The closest one is now in Orlando. Prices there are $31.99 for lunch and $46.99 for weekend lunch or dinner.

■ Piada Italian Street Food is a fast casual restaurant with prices for pasta bowls, for example, in the $7-$8 range. This would be its first location in the Southeast.

Newk’s Eatery and Starbucks are also going into the development as well as Aspen Dental and Mattress Firm.

Two outparcels are still available. The Shopping Center Group is handling the leasing.

Developer Core Property Capital of Atlanta also plans two hotels, a lakefront restaurant and multi-family housing along the back of the property.

Construction is expected to start this summer with plans to open spring 2017.
