JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Permits for Electric Dough Pizza Co. to open in the historic San Marco Theatre have been filed with the city of Jacksonville, with the new restaurant targeting an opening in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Electric Dough Pizza Co. is a handmade pizza-centric restaurant concept by Chef Tom Gray. After the San Marco Theatre's closure in late 2022, Flying Iguana was the first tenant linked with the location, though plans fell through.
“Electric Dough Pizza Co. has reached an exciting milestone with the submission of the project’s construction permits,” Gray said in a press release. “We are excited to bring our newest restaurant to this iconic San Marco location, and we look forward to seeing our concept come alive when we welcome locals and visitors later this year.”
The historic structure at 1996 San Marco Blvd. was built in 1938. The building's owner, Jacksonville-based TSG Realty, is maintaining the building’s historic facade. The restaurant will be operated by CuliVino Hospitality Management and Consulting and the contractor is Urban Planners.
Designed by Atlanta-based architect ai3, Electric Dough Pizza Co.’s 4,200-square-foot interior will pay homage to the theater, according to the release.
Using an Italy-imported electric oven, Gray’s rectangular artisan pizzas featuring a Roman-style dough with Detroit-style edges.
Other than pizza, Electric Dough Pizza Co. will offer salads, a rotating selection of gelato and sorbets. The restaurant will also have a cocktail bar, domestic and imported beer, wine, craft sodas and zero-proof offerings.
Electric Dough Pizza Co. will include a retail area offering take-and-bake frozen pizzas, fresh pastas, from-scratch sauces, house made pimento cheese and other products to enjoy at home. Electric Dough Pizza Co. is anticipated to open in Q4 2024.
Gray also founded Prati Italia at the St. Johns Town Center, and Town Hall in San Marco.
