ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — Residents looking to recycle their Christmas trees after the holidays can do so starting Tuesday, thanks to an annual program from the St. Johns County Parks & Recreation.
The 'Treecycling' program utilizes leftover Christmas trees to make mulch for parks across the county.
The program runs from Dec. 26, 2023, to Jan. 3, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at five different locations in St. Johns County.
Here's a look at the five drop-off locations
- Ron Parker Park, 607 Old Beach Road
- Mills Field, 1805 Racetrack Road
- Davis Park, 210 Davis Park Road
- Tillman Ridge Transfer Station, 3005 Allen Nease Road
- Stratton Road Transfer Station, 250 North Stratton Road
People can also use an online map to help pick the drop-off location that's closest to them.
Every Christmas tree donated to the program must be real and cannot have any holiday decorations on it.
The county says the program is just another way of showing its commitment to sustainability.
“This annual event will help continue keeping real Christmas trees out of our landfills and utilizes them in a way that benefits St. Johns County even when they’re no longer lighting up our homes,” St. Johns County Natural Resources Superintendent Nathan Otter said.
