JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Triple AAA says a record-breaking 4.5 million Floridians will be on the road this week as we get closer to Thanksgiving. We are Your Side and talked to a mechanic about what to do you so avoid being stranded on the highway.
John Carryl, owner of Carryl Tires Company says this is the busiest time of the year for his car shop.
“We see a pretty heavy increase especially these three days before Thanksgiving," said Carryl.
Mark Jenkins, a spokesperson for Triple AAA says he highly recommend you get your car checked out before you take the road.
"We get thousands of calls from people who didn’t probably expect they would have car trouble. Most people don’t, and these are folks who might not have been taking care of their vehicle properly," said Jenkins.
Carryl showed us what drivers need to pay attention to before hitting the road.
“Check your tires, look at them, make sure they don’t have any steel bands coming out of them. Check the pressure, make sure it is at the recommended setting which is on the door jam on the driver front door. Also, we are going to want to check the oil level, also make sure your battery is at a level of charge and you are not going to be in a situation where you are stuck on the side of the road," said Carryl.
Carryl says it is not too late to get your vehicle looked at.
“It’s just nice to have a piece of mind when you know that stuff is handled."
Carryl would go on to say to not forget to get your spare tire checked. He says there is nothing worse than being stranded on the highway with no back-up plan.
