YULEE, Fla. — Despite playing football for the Tennessee Titans, one NFL star and Yulee native makes an effort every year to come back to his hometown in Florida to spread a little holiday spirit.
Derrick Henry and his family gave away hundreds of toys to kids on Saturday at the football player's annual holiday giveaway in Yulee.
Every December, Henry's family, along with volunteers from his foundation Two All, hand out toys to the first 500 kids who attend the giveaway.
Henry's family said they are proud to give back to a community that has supported him over the years.
"We are giving back to the community in which we all grew up in, which is Yulee," said Rose Johnson, Henry's aunt. "We have always been a giving family and my grandmother would be proud to see that her family is still giving back in the giving season."
"It is always better to give back than receive," Johnson added.
This isn't the only annual event that Henry hosts to give back to his hometown.
At the start of every school year, Henry also hosts the Backpack & Bikes Drive which makes sure kids are prepared when they head back to class. That event gives items to the first 200 kids who arrive.
"We honor our grandmother today, Gladys Henry, as well as Derrick Henry who has given back to the community in which he has grown up in," said Johnson.
Derrick Henry and the Tennessee Titans will host the Jacksonville Jaguars in the final week of the regular season next month.
