Jacksonville Humane Society extends deadline for free Christmas pet delivery

The original deadline to participate in the program was Wednesday, but JHS said it will continue to look for families in the days leading up to Christmas.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Humane Society has a holiday adoption special available for anyone who adopts a furry friend in the days leading up to Christmas. For the first time, pet lovers can adopt a cat or dog at JHS and schedule their furry friend's delivery on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day

The original deadline to participate in the program was Wednesday, but JHS said it will continue to look for families in the days leading up to Christmas. Surprisingly, JHS staff members told First Coast News Wednesday morning that no pets have been adopted through the program yet.

The President of JHS says the opportunity is the perfect gift for both families and pets during the holidays.

"We know cats and dogs are a part of our family. The holidays is such a great time to spend with our family," said Lawrence Nicolas, President of JHS. "Tying those two things together is a really special unique moment where everybody can enjoy with a brand new family member. It warms our hearts"

JHS says deliveries can only be scheduled in person and are first come first serve.

"We do ask that you are comfortable with your family being filmed during the delivery," JHS wrote on Facebook.

Just last week, 55 animals from JHS were able to go to their forever homes to celebrate the holidays with their new families.
