JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Former Jacksonville City Councilman Don Redman has died at the age of 79, according to an X post made by the Republican Party of Duval County.

Redman served as a councilman for two terms from 2007 to 2015. He was also a husband, father of five children, grandfather of 12 and was a veteran who served in the Navy during the Vietnam War.

Furthermore, Redman was an active member of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville for 39 years, serving as an usher for 37 years, according to the city of Jacksonville's website. He even promoted youth activities for several years including little league baseball, River City Swimming, Master Swimming, biking and running events. The same compassion Redman had for youth sporting activities, translated to the annual Gate River Run, formerly known as the Jacksonville River Run, as he "entered and finished every race," the city of Jacksonville's website states.

Among all of his greatest achievements in the scope of his public life, none were more meaningful to him than when he "fought and won a battle to keep residential mail delivery in an older neighborhood, fought to make sure the Southbank River Walk was completed properly and helped to create an alternative to 'Out of School Suspensions,'" Redman said in a January 2019 biography, questionnaire Florida Times-Union article.
