ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. — The first store of a popular and widely-awarded frozen custard chain in Jacksonville is celebrating a milestone.
On Tuesday, Whit's Frozen Custard is marking 10 years since the opening of its first, most popular location in Atlantic Beach.
The store is celebrating with Birthday Cake as Tuesday's special flavor and is offering a 10 percent discount on all orders at all seven locations around Jacksonville.
The family-owned business is known for sundaes, milkshakes and its famous Whitser which is a blended dessert that comes with up to three flavors with toppings of your choice.
The chain's first store located at 38 Ocean Boulevard in Atlantic Beach has garnered popularity around the community.
Whit's Frozen Custard has been voted No. 1 Frozen Custard in the city by Jacksonville Magazine from 2018 to 2023, and No. 1 Ice Cream in 904 by Void Magainze from 2015 to 2020.
The Whit's co-owner said her favorite thing about the store is how happy customers are when they come in.
"The community has been very supportive over the years," said Whit's Co-Owner Jessica McKinley. "We are now hiring employees who came to our store when they were six and seven years old. It's just so special to be so connected in our community over the years."
She added, "It's hard to be in a bad mood when you are treating yourself."
Currently, McKinley owns seven stores that are open at Atlantic Beach, Jacksonville Beach, Avondale, Mandarin, Orange Park, South Jacksonville and Kernan Boulevard, with an eighth location on the way in St. Johns County.
McKinley said they are looking at opening a location in the area of County Road 210, but are still in the process of scouting potential locations. She estimates the new location to be open in roughly 18 months.
