ORANGE PARK, Fla. — After nearly 20 years in business, Grumpy's Diner in Orange Park continues to satisfy customers with big portions and southern hospitality.
Grumpy's is a staple in the Orange Park community and it was started by a retired Navy chef nicknamed Grumpy.
"Grumpy's is home of the bad mood dude, that is our slogan," owner, Daniel Deleon said. Deleon is an Orange Park native who bought the business almost two years ago. He's worked more than 12 years in the restaurant business and he's no stranger to serving up delicious cuisine.
"Me and my wife felt like it was a good opportunity to take it to the next level give it a little T.L.C.," says Deleon. "We did a full renovation update and upgrades to the menu."
Grumpy's is known for its hefty portions and promises that you'll leave happy on a full stomach.
"We believe you have to fill the plate, we never want to see the bottom of the plate you know we love huge portions and home cooked food," Deleon says.
A popular favorite is the Grumpy's Cinnamon Roll Pancakes.
"We infuse our pancakes with half of the cinnamon roll inside the pancake," Deleon said.
"It's three large pancakes, we call it our full stack so it's just a mountain portion. Then we put the center of the cinnamon roll on top of the pancake, drizzle it with icing and cinnamon sauce... You got the center of the cinnamon roll, the center of the pancake, I tell people just eat the center it's the best part anyway."
The signature dish is the Grumpy's Big Breakfast and at $9.99, it's a dish you just can't beat.
"Traditional breakfast, eggs any style, meat, side of hash browns, home fries grits, all your traditional favorites served with pancakes and a beverage," he said.
For lunch, the Grumpy's Meatloaf is a favorite, which is served fresh daily.
'We pride ourselves on really doing that and keeping it as fresh as possible and growing off of that we serve our meatloaf with our vegetable medley green beans and a dinner roll and it's phenomenal," he said.
