Zoom adoptions: ACPS getting creative to find pets forever homes

They just started doing the Zoom adoptions this weekend and already 33 dogs have found new homes.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — After having to close its facility very quickly due to city guidelines in the coronavirus pandemic, Animal Care and Protective Services is starting up the adoptions and fostering programs once again.

They are going to be doing it over Zoom, that way it limits interactions between adopters and staff. Jennifer Walter, the Shelter Manager at Animal Control and Protective Services, says potential adopters can get to see the dog or cat they are interested in over that Zoom call and get a better look at its personality.

"While they are not able to meet them in person in an interaction room with staff present, we can show them interacting with staff and playing with toys so they can get an idea of their personality before adopting," explains Walter.

She says there are currently 143 dogs and 25 cats in the shelter, not all are up for adoption at this point, some still need medical treatments before an adoption can occur. They just started doing the Zoom adoptions this weekend and already 33 dogs have found new homes.

When you come to pick up your pet, all the paperwork will be done and processed online, so you pull up and the animal will be brought out to you curbside.

You can also foster and the needed supplies will be provided.  As fosters, you also get the first pick at potentially adopting that pet.

Pictures of adoptable animals be found on the website www.COJ.net/pets

If you want to set up a Zoom session Walter says the best way to reach staff at ACPS is via email at JaxPets@coj.net.
