GMJ Wednesday: Where news is a pleasure

A shiny, new Publix is coming to a historical part of town.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — When you walk into a Publix, do you go left or do you go right?

That's not a veiled political question. It's a genuine curiosity.

I feel like the store is set up for you to veer off to the right, stroll past the bins of BOGOs, then amble by the bakery to get your free cookie, a quick stop at the meat counter for some lunch stuff before finally beginning the meandering trek in and out of the stacks and stacks of various items.

If something is "two for $5.00" does that mean it's also "one for $2.50?"

All these curiosities are seemingly about to come to historic San Marco.

A lot at the corner of Atlantic and Hendricks that's been empty for years has been promised to the grocery store.

And all of this, I think, warrants an entire discussion here on my Hump Day Wednesday GMJ discussion.

Sure, the jury will continue deliberating in the Brown trial today. And yes, there has been a murder arrest... an opioid arrest too.

But Publix, that's where we go to take a walk, see if the bourbon-glazed salmon is a dollar off, say hello to your friend in the meat counter and just escape for a while.

Is that just me? Or do ya'll enjoy that too?

I was looking at the artist renderings of this San Marco Publix. If all goes as planned, it'll be two stories tall, built over a parking garage.

The developers are giving more details about it Thursday night at Southside Baptist Church.

Come on by #GMJ when you wake up, let's discuss our favorite grocery store chains.

Have a great day.

Mahalo,
