GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. — The city of Green Cove Springs will celebrate hometown Olympian Caeleb Dressel at the city's 'Christmas on Walnut Street' event scheduled to take place in a month, according to a news release.
Dressel, 28, is a 10-time Olympic medalist who grew up in Green Cove Springs and graduated from Clay High School. He won three medals in this year's Olympics in Paris — two golds in the 4x100m freestyle relay and 4x100m mixed medley relay, and a silver in the 4x100m medley relay.
The release says the highlight of the event is the 'Green Cove Springs Christmas Parade,' which is organized by the Green Cove Springs Business League in partnership with the city.
"This year's theme, 'A Vintage Christmas,' will light up downtown with over 70 floats sparkling with lights as they make their way along the mile of Orange Ave./US Hwy 17," the release states. "As part of the parade, Mr. Dressel will be named 'Hometown Hero' and will ride on a specially decorated float, embodying the spirit of the season and the pride of our community."
The event starts at noon on Dec. 7 at Spring Park, where there will be "over 50 craft booths and food trucks... free photos with Santa in the pool pavilion... [and] over 250 beautifully decorated Christmas Trees," according to the release. The parade itself kicks off at 6 p.m.
"We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Caeleb Dressel will be joining us for this year's Christmas on Walnut Street event!" City Manager Steve Kennedy said in the release. "Celebrating his remarkable achievements and acknowledging the incredible positive impact he's had on both our community and the world is truly an honor. This year's event promises to be unforgettable!"
