Tobie Nell Perkins is a Digital Producer for First Coast News. She joined the team in April 2022 after two years of working with Report for America.
She grew up in Philadelphia and attended the University of Florida, where she graduated in 2020. She worked with WUFT News on features and special reports during her time at UF.
Tobie moved to Rock Hill, South Carolina in June 2020 as part of her work with Report for America. As part of the organization’s goal of expanding local news coverage, she worked at the Rock Hill Herald covering minority communities.
Tobie was on the scene at several national stories, including the mass shooting committed by ex-NFL player Phillip Adams. She has won a National Murrow Award in the small market multimedia category, as well as awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Florida Society of News editors for her reporting.
Tobie has always thought of Florida as her “true home” and is passionate about helping to inform people across the First Coast.
Tobie is obsessed with pop culture and music and loves politics, her dogs Jellybean and Allen (who is blind and has three legs), her horse Piper, comic books and women’s basketball. Her goal in life is to find the perfect iced latte.
Mostly, she loves writing and the city of Jacksonville.
