Chris Porter

First Coast News Sports Director

Chris Porter is a 3-time Emmy nominee who has covered anything sports-related across the First Coast since 2009. As Sports Director, Chris has covered countless sporting events, with highlights including the 2016 Olympics from Rio, the Jaguars’ annual London game since its inception, the yearly Florida/Georgia game, and both the University of Florida and Florida State’s NCAA championship runs. 

Chris is also known around the First Coast for his Friday sports show that highlights local sports and athletes, #TeamSideline. 

Chris joined the First Coast News sports team after spending 5 years at First Coast News’ sister station, WMAZ in Macon, Georgia. There, central Georgians could count on Chris to provide high-energy coverage of Atlanta college and professional sports teams in addition to local high school sports. He received several accolades for his reporting while in Macon, including a Merit Award from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters for Best Sports Story.

Chris knew from an early age that he wanted to pursue a career in sports journalism. He earned his degree in Communication from Fort Valley State University in Macon, Georgia in 2004.

In his free time, Chris is actively involved in the Jacksonville community, volunteering his time at the Emmett Reed Community Center. He also enjoys spending time with his family, working out, and enjoying some of the beautiful spots around the First Coast.
