JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Ashley Gonzalez joined the First Coast News team in the spring of 2023 as a Sports Reporter.

She is the first Latina to join the sports team in First Coast News history.

Ashley is from the Rio Grande Valley located deep in South Texas. She went to Texas A&M University -- Kingsville where she earned her bachelor's degree in Speech Communications and Minor in Journalism.

Before joining First Coast News, she spent four years in Corpus Christi, Texas at our TEGNA affiliate, KIII-TV as Sports Anchor. At KIII-TV, she became the first female Sports Anchor in station history.

Her journey in broadcast began in 2019 during her senior year in college as a part-time Weekend Morning Editor and Photographer. Four months after graduating, she was promoted to a Multi-Skilled Journalist. Two years later is when she was promoted to a Sports Anchor.

Since she was old enough to bounce a basketball, she knew she wanted sports to be in her life every day. Growing up, Ashley would play with the "sandlot" kids in her hometown of Weslaco, Texas. All sports were played. Especially football.

When Ashley is not catching the game of the week, you can find her outdoors, exploring new dog parks to take her dog Stella to.
