JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Markas Fishburne, arrested in 2019 in the gruesome death of his roommate's girlfriend, has pleaded guilty to the murder.

The penalty phase of Fishburne's case is set to begin Friday.

In December 2019, Fishburne's roommate returned home and found large amounts of blood, including a bloody handprint in the carpet.

When police arrived to the scene on Princeton Square Boulevard, they found 25-year-old Aisha Levy dead.

The roommate told police he smelled bleach, as if someone was trying to clean up the blood, and said he noticed his handgun was missing.

Fishburne's arrest report said he used a "knife or cutting instrument" in the incident.

In 2022, he was convicted of stabbing his prison roommate, Josh'uan Stripling. Stripling testified against him in court, displaying a prominent scar across his neck from the attack.

Surveillance video shows Stripling grabbing a bag from Fishburne’s cell – he said it contained toothpaste and coffee -- before returning and punching Fishburne in the face. Fishburne responded by cutting Stripling’s neck with a razor blade strapped to a comb.

Fishburne was sentenced to five years for aggravated battery inside a detention facility. Whatever sentence the jury decides in Levy's death will be added on top of that.
