Jaguars' Tom Coughlin issues statement regarding Ramsey trade deal

VP of Football Operations for the Jags issued a statement on Wednesday regarding Jalen Ramsey's trade to the Los Angeles Rams.

Tom Coughlin, VP of Football Operations for the Jaguars, issued a statement on Wednesday after news broke that Ramsey is being traded to the Los Angeles Rams.

"Given the situation with Jalen, we made this decision based on what we thought is in the best interest of the Jacksonville Jaguars, for this season and well into the future," Coughlan said. "We feel the trade that we struck with the Rams gives us great value for the next two drafts and we remain very confident that our team today will compete this season for a division title. Jalen was a productive player, but the time came to move on and we wish him and his family the best in Los Angeles."

The fourth-year pro has not played for the Jaguars since Week Three. His agent requested a trade following the Jaguars' Week Two loss to the Houston Texans. During that game, Ramsey and head coach Doug Marrone were involved in a heated exchange; Ramsey reportedly met with the Jaguars' front office after the game and left that meeting feeling "at peace" about his decision.

The Jaguars cornerback is being traded to the Rams for a first-round pick in 2020 and a first-round pick in 2021, plus a fourth-round pick.
